Mr Peerbhai started this idea: sharing our paths to recovery. Stammering has been compared to a bog (daldal): Many paths lead to it. And many paths lead out of it. Sometime, we tend to believe that my path is the only path; that my path will suit everyone else. This is far from the facts as we know today. In a nutshell- factors which cause stuttering in first place (early childhood) are often quite different from the factors which cause stuttering to persist in adolescence and adult life.

Hope you noticed, I used 'factors', not 'factor'. There are many reasons which cause and sustain our stammering. This is why many approaches help PWS. In fact, some people say, that any new 'trick' or approach will help PWS certainly for some days: blowing conch-shell, repeating some sacred syllable, breathing out before talking, speaking with an accent etc. Therefore, it is necessary that YOU check out various approaches and find out what suits YOU most, instead of entrusting yourself in the hands of “experts” (-often for a big fee, which may have no correlation with services and time given).

Many people ask TISA- is there a cure? Most researchers and leading authorities say that there is no permanent cure for the stammering which has persisted into adult life (beyond 18 yrs or so). Check this page at British stammering association. BUT THERE IS HOPE. You can learn to manage stammering and become good communicator. That is what matters at the end of the day. So here is an incomplete list of what helped some of us. Remember, it is a very abbreviated list:

Mr Harish Usgaonkar : Deep Breating exercises and Pushing myself to do those things which I avoided doing because of stammering.
Mr. Sivasubramanian : Reading aloud for 1 hour in the morning and talking to people close to him.
Mr. Mani Maran : Accepting Stammering is the key. It frees you from constant subconscious wasteful struggle against stammering. You are free to start communicating.
Dr Sachin : Told about his stammering to a saint frankly. Browsed Internet and read about stammering. Tried to help other PWS. These three things worked wonders for him.
Mr Peerbhai : Vipassana and Brahmavidya helped him to overcome stammering.

Now you too can put in one or two lines (as to what helped you) and your e-mail id, so that this compendium grows.
