The problem of stuttering has been around for a long time now. But the causes and remedies in overcoming this problematic situation are yet to be found. Though there have been many theories circulating differing ideas as to what causes stuttering, none of them have been proved concretely. Researchers are still working on the problem of stuttering to determine its causes and try to provide definitive treatments to prevail over the stuttering problem.

Meanwhile research has also been going on to find the connection between the neural cells and stuttering. There seems to be some sort of correlation between neurology and stuttering as there have been cases where the performance of a stutterer has been affected because of the problem. Though the change in performance has been minuscule, it just goes on to show that there is a distinct connection between the neural patterns and stuttering.

With studies and research going on, samples of neural patterns were taken from stutterers and non stutterers to try and study the difference between the two patterns. What was observed was that the usage of the right hemisphere was found to be more in stutterers than non stutterers. Also, the processing in both the hemispheres was found to be higher in stutterers than non stutterers. This was not only the case of stutterers but the same was observed even in former stutterers. When stutterers undergo treatment and recover from stuttering the neural patterns seem to remain the same but in reality they undergo changes only slowly and the change in the neural pattern is visible only at least a year after treatment.

Another pattern which was noticed in stutterers was that the neural cells were used in an effortful way while reading for stutterers whereas non stutterers use their neural cells in an effortless way. This is the cause for stuttering people not being able to read fluently or at a faster pace than non stutterers. The change of pattern in the reading habits too was noticed only after a year of treatment.

Though there have been atypical neural patterns with respect to stuttering, there are some neural images which clearly show variation between a stutterer and non stutterer and also between a treated stutterer and an untreated one. In summary, it can be safely assumed that there is a certain connection between he neural patterns and the stuttering behavior in a person.
