Peter Reitzes of Stutter talk is sending a petition to ASHA to ensure that SLPs honor its ethics and dont lead the stutterers up the garden path.. This is important.
We all (-I haven't met an exception so far-) have suffered at the hands of some or other SLPs who would either over charge us for therapy (just because we are desperate for cure) - or who would promise us impossible ("cure in 12 days"etc.). I have practiced as a medical doctor for over ten years- and I can say with confidence that while other clinical branches (medicine, surgery, ENT, ophthalmology) have some kind of professional and state control over the conduct of its practitioners- field of stammering therapy is like "wild west". Anyone can do anything and get away. But the primary responsibility lies with us- the PWS. We need to be more proactive and informed. Here is a chance for you to play your role.
