1. What is TISA?
It is a self help association of Indian people who stammer. A Charitable trust.

2. What does TISA do?
It promotes self help groups, conducts Communication workshop,
Awareness camps, publishes and disseminates self help information for
IPWS, brings out a quarterly newsletter etc.

3. How can I join it?
There is no membership fee. You can join by joining a SHG or starting
one or by regularly participating in TISA events, writing for TISA
blog/ website, promoting TISA at your workplace etc.

4. Do I need to join SHG for ever?
No. Once you feel confident of dealing with your challenges, you can
move on. You may keep in touch over a long period of time and help
TISA as a coach for other younger IPWS.

5. How can I coordinate TISA SHG?
By taking initiative- by attending at least one Communication workshop and at least three
TISA SHG meeting elsewhere. A lot of guidance is available on TISA blog and website.

6. How can I conduct Communication workshop?
To become a accredited TISA facilitator, you have to volunteer at TISA
HQ for 3 months and help as Asst. facilitator in at least 5
communication workshops.

7. I am a stammerer. Can I conduct TISA SHG or Communication workshops?
Yes, provided you meet above mentioned requirements.

8. What is unacceptable in TISA ?
Two things are absolute “no, no”:
A) Promotion of private/ commercial Speech therapies, electronic
gadgets, questionable/ irrational approaches to therapy (eg. blowing
conchshell)
B) Treating stammering as a disease to be cured and promoting fluency
as the only good in life!!

9. How can I financially contribute to TISA? or help otherwise?
Depending on your means, you can consider these options:
A) Help TISA print brochures, story book for children (Izabella, Seven
Stories, The Manual), hire translators for these books in regional
languages etc.
B) Help TISA make a documentary on stammering for Indian audience
C) Help TISA conduct Communication workshop in India and nearby SE
Asian countries, by contributing travel, board and lodge for the
facilitators
D) Subsidise travel, board and lodge for students wanting to attend
Communication workshops. etc.

10. How can I contribute to TISA blog?
Send an email to JP/ Sachin (info at the rate stammer.in). You will get author invitation. Your posts
may be edited by editor, to keep them in line with editorial
guidelines.

11. How can I contribute to TISA website?
You can send your contribution to JP, Sachin (info at the rate stammer.in).

12. I am an IT professional. How can I contribute?
Make an animation on Izabella or seven stories. Update and beautify
TISA website. Help TISA with SEO. Get in touch with Sachin and JP (info at the rate stammer.in) for
more ideas.
