You can do lots! But first you must give up this mindset: I will start living fully only when my stammer has been fixed! You can start living and changing your world right NOW! And, to volunteer for TISA, you certainly dont need to throw away your stammer. It is just a different way of talking. And at TISA, we respect (and expect) differences. For example, you could do any of the following depending on your skills, background etc.
1. You could send us an email about yourself, your interests etc. We will put you in touch with other IPWS. You could send them emails, phone them - help them, learn from them. Think of them as a part of your larger family. Some IPWS live in isolation and getting in touch with them could be great service.
2. You could write posts for TISA blog- sharing your exepriences of speech therapy (what helped? what did not?), your coping strategies, your message to other IPWS out there.. your recent creative writing- poem, word sketch- anything..
3. You could register at Yahoo IPWS chat group- and start posting encouraging notes: sharing life changing stories, responding to some one who is facing a viva next monday..
4. You can start a Self help Group in your neighborhood or college or workplace. TISA can help you with this.
5. You can watch movies showing stuttering and write reveiws for them at this website..(like the one from Hetal- Media and Stammering).

NB: As you do some of these activities to serve others selflessly, we assure you, you will notice a subtle change in yourself: in your attitude to your speech, to communication, to other people; As a result your speech will change for better. When we accept our stammering- and focus on communication ( all the activities above would necessitate that)- our communication certainly changes for better. Check it out ! |
