Pune Self Help Group (SHG) was started in June 2008, by Gopal along with Praveen and Sanjeet. However due to work-load and other important engagements, the frequecy of meeting went to very low during a point of time.
Fortunately it was the time when another PWS (Person Who Stammers) Jai Prakash Sunda (J.P.) was searching for a SHG in Pune & got in touch with Sachin, Gopal, Praveen, Sanjit & a few other PWSs and the group was reincarnated with 5 people in their first meet. The group used to meet in public parks until they got an indoor space. Another boost to the group was an article which was published in DNA, which generated a lot of constructive communication in the group about various subjects like how to interact with media, means of advertising about the group & stammering, whether advertising was at all necessary? etc.. The group also organised a two day awareness session about stammering in one of the IT firm in Pune in July 2009 ( http://t-tisa.blogspot.com/2009/07/what-is-in-name-final-day-of-workshop.html , http://t-tisa.blogspot.com/2009/07/tisa-pune-workshop-day-1.html ), which saw good response. The group presently has around 25 members (with 1 female member). Currently, the group practices slow reading, introductions, prepared / impromptu speeches, bouncing, voluntray stuttering etc. The coordinator is learning more about self help and speech therapy at Samagra (Dehradun), on a six month sabbatical. Manohar Mikkili is the current Coordintaor and is carrying the group forward. If you stutter or someone you know does, feel free to drop in. SHG is not only about receiveing help but it is also a place to help others. Please find below the venue and contact details for weekly meetings:
