Herbertpur group is called "Speech Support Group" and it started sometime in September 2007. Herbertpur is 40 km from Dehradun on Dehradun-Chandigarh highway. Just 12 km before Paonta Sahib, the border town between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Chakrata mountains are visible from this little town, on the banks of Yamuna. It is famous for tea gardens, an old mission hospital and some good schools. It is also popular for an Asokan edict from 3rd century BC and a vedic sacrificial site (Jagatgram) on the banks of Yamuna river (link).

The group here started with three PWS: sachin, pawan and rajneesh. The latter two worked with Samagra as volunteers and helped sachin to start group therapy for CWS in local schools. Later, many other came while some moved on in life. Pawan is now teaching in a local school. Rajneesh is doing PG is physical education. Vijay - a diploma SLP joined Samagra a little later, and began helping us with our SHG meetings on Sundays and our work in schools.

This group has brought out a primer on stammering for general audience, both in Hindi and Englsih, conducted awareness workshops and organised short intensive speech therapy courses for PWS. Its therapeutic approach is influenced by American schools (Dr Sheehan, Dr Van Riper etc) and Indian tradiitons of meditation, introspection and self-inquiry.

Role plays, intercative / participatory activities, singing, formal presentations, mock interviews, group meditation, mutual videography, feedback and analysis is used as some of the tools. Most of our weekly reports are available on TISA blog (search Herbertpur or Dehradun)
